GordonDerr serves as real estate, environmental, and water law general counsel to Cascade Water Alliance, a consortium of Eastside cities and utility districts. Most recently, GordonDerr represented CWA in the acquisition of Lake Tapps for a regional supply project. The Alliance will provide water to a large portion of the Eastside, drawing water from Lake Tapps and distributing it through a 21-mile pipeline to its member organizations. In addition, on behalf of the Alliance, the firm has negotiated with multiple property owners and a number of jurisdictions to acquire rights for a proposed pipeline corridor to carry water purchased from the City of Tacoma. The assemblage of properties for this large-scale utility infrastructure project requires contingency planning, and has involved the negotiation and preparation of acquisition documents, title review, and due diligence evaluation, as well as preparing franchise agreements and negotiating with other utilities that have infrastructure in the same or nearby corridors.
